The EQ Conceptual Framework provides an overview of the many rivers that flow into the emotional intelligence curriculum and culture at Melrose Primary School.
This framework has been guided by research and best practice and developed collaboratively by the Melrose Team.
The work of Wilson McCaskill (Play is the Way), Six Seconds (emotional intelligence network), RULER (Yale University) and the Berry Street Education Model (trauma informed practice) have heavily influenced the framework and guide our daily way of Educating the Hearts and Minds of our students.
The Term Overview below is guided by the Curriculum Overview (see tabs) and is then collaborated around within teams during planning days to create engaging and explicit lessons.
Teams collaborate to plan EQ lessons using the consistent Weekly planning template below. These documents ensure explicit planning for each classroom in the school.
The Scope and Sequence documents provide a overview for each what is taught in each of the 3 pillars, outlining which EQ concepts should be taught at what stage.
The EQ Strategic Plan guides the work of the EQ Curriculum Leader, EQ Curriculum Team and whole school work in EQ.
Documented inside the plan are the school-wide goals for EQ as well a progress tracker to enable collaborative conversations about the progress of the outlined goals.
Educating Hearts and Minds is a curriculum support document designed to support the teaching and learning of Emotional Intelligence. Processes that support the culture of Emotional Intelligence and Behaviour Education at Melrose Primary School are also included in this document.
